U13AAA Hockey is coming to Sylvan Lake!

Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey Association and West Central Tigers, with the support of our rural central Alberta minor hockey associations, will be hosting one of two new central Alberta teams in the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) next season.

New teams in Red Deer and Sylvan Lake will join the AEHL as part of a new Province-wide U13 AAA program for the start of the 2025/2026 season. You can read more about the official announcement on Hockey Alberta’s website.

While the team is hosted by Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey, the team will operate as a rural team similar to our West Central clubs.

Both SLMHA and WCT remain committed to ensuring our AA program for the U13 division remains accessible and strong for young athletes in our west central hub communities. We will continue to operate our U13AA West Central Tigers in a manner expected by young athletes and their families. Hockey Alberta has also made that commitment to AA programs.

By partnering with surrounding communities, we can ensure that local ice times in Sylvan Lake will not be impacted, and our regular allocation of ice will continue to operate at the same level with no interruptions.

We continue to work alongside Hockey Alberta, Red Deer MHC and all our rural central Alberta hockey associations on this new venture. We look forward to introducing U13AAA hockey to Sylvan Lake and area athletes and their families. We believe this to be a great addition to the association, and look forward to offering this opportunity.
